Britney Spears returned to Instagram on Friday with a cheerful video message about heading to the movies, marking her first post since reports surfaced of a chaotic dining experience at a Los Angeles restaurant earlier in the week.
The 44-year-old singer shared the short Reel while apparently driving, greeting followers with “What’s up world?” before announcing she was on her way to see the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. She added a playful note about preferring Chanel or Gucci but deciding to follow the devil’s lead on Prada.
Spears also expressed excitement about the theater snacks, saying she came for the buttered popcorn and the Slurpee. “F**k yeah, Slurpees. Yes man, yes!” she said in the clip.
The outing follows days of online buzz after journalist Jeff Sneider posted on X on Wednesday, May 13, describing a “WILD experience” dining near Spears at Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks, California. Sneider wrote that one diner “feared for her life” and called the scene “INSANE,” though he provided no further specifics in the initial post.
TMZ later reported that witnesses described Spears raising her voice, screaming, and barking during the meal with friends. The account quickly spread across social media and entertainment outlets.
Spears’ representatives moved quickly to address the claims. In a statement to Us Weekly on Thursday, May 14, a rep said the incident had been “completely blown out of proportion.”
“Britney was enjoying a quiet dinner with her assistant and bodyguard,” the representative said. “She was simply telling the story about how her dog was barking at the neighbors.”
The statement also pushed back on reports that Spears had brandished a knife in a threatening manner. “At no point did she put anyone in danger with a knife. She was cutting her hamburger in half,” the rep said, adding that the coverage echoed the intense media scrutiny the singer faced two decades ago.
“This constant attack on everything that she does and this is exactly what happened 20 years ago when the media tried to depict Britney as a bad person,” the statement continued. “This is ridiculous, and it needs to stop now.”
The Devil Wears Prada 2, the follow-up to the 2006 original, stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt reprising their roles. Spears’ post made no mention of the restaurant reports, focusing instead on her plans for the evening.
Earlier this week, Spears had deleted her Instagram account amid separate controversy surrounding her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s upcoming memoir. The new Reel appears to signal a return to her usual pattern of sharing casual updates with fans.
Restaurant staff have not publicly commented on the evening, and no charges or formal complaints have been reported in connection with the dinner. Spears’ team has not indicated whether she plans to address the matter further.
