Deeper reading insights unlocked: Rakuten Kobo and StoryGraph announce integration

Rakuten Kobo and StoryGraph announced an automatic reading progress sync launching in June 2026. The integration lets Kobo users track books and access analytics on StoryGraph seamlessly.

Rakuten Kobo and StoryGraph have announced a new integration that will allow Kobo users to automatically sync their reading progress with the book tracking platform starting in June 2026. The partnership positions Kobo as the first eReader to offer native progress syncing with StoryGraph, reducing the need for manual logging and providing readers with deeper insights into their habits.

The announcement was made from Toronto on May 19, 2026, through a GlobeNewswire release published on montrealgazette.com. According to the companies, the feature will work across both eBooks and audiobooks, automatically marking completed titles as "Read" on StoryGraph while feeding data into its analytics tools.

"For a lot of us, the best part of reading is the community. It’s a part of how we show up in the world as readers every day," said Michael Tamblyn, CEO of Rakuten Kobo. "That’s why I’m so excited about our integration with StoryGraph. We wanted to strip away the friction between finishing a chapter and tracking and sharing your progress."

Tamblyn emphasized that the update would help readers celebrate milestones with others who share similar interests. The integration aims to connect Kobo's millions of users worldwide with StoryGraph's community features, including streaks, challenges, and book clubs.

Nadia Odunayo, Founder and CEO of StoryGraph, highlighted the broader goals of the collaboration. "Our mission is to make reading lives better, and removing the friction from tracking is one of the most direct ways we can do that," she said. "We’re proud to be partnering with Kobo as the first eReader to integrate natively with StoryGraph, and what’s launching in June is just the start of what we hope to build together."

StoryGraph, founded in 2019, has grown to more than 5 million users who rely on its mood-based recommendations, detailed statistics, and ad-free experience. The platform received a 2025 Apple App Store Award and operates on web, iOS, and Android. Kobo, owned by Tokyo-based Rakuten Group and headquartered in Toronto, will make the sync available for all account-based content.

Users who link their accounts will gain access to StoryGraph's charts on reading pace, moods, and personalized suggestions drawn directly from Kobo activity. The companies noted that the feature will capture progress automatically whether readers are using dedicated eReaders or the Kobo app.

Background on the companies shows Rakuten Kobo's focus on personalized curation of eBooks and audiobooks for a global audience. StoryGraph positions itself as a community-driven alternative for readers seeking more than basic tracking, with tools for setting goals and joining buddy reads.

Officials said the integration represents an effort to blend hardware and software ecosystems in the digital reading space. No specific pricing changes or additional fees were mentioned in the announcement, and the service will be available to existing Kobo account holders.

Details on the exact setup process remain limited at this stage, though the companies directed users to visit their sites for connection instructions once the feature launches. The partnership is described as the beginning of further joint developments between the two platforms.

Industry observers have noted that automatic syncing could appeal to readers who juggle multiple devices or prefer data-driven insights over manual entry. Both companies stressed that the update keeps user data secure while enhancing engagement across their services.

The announcement comes as digital reading continues to evolve, with platforms seeking ways to retain users through community and analytics features. Kobo's open platform has long aimed to fit reading into busy schedules, while StoryGraph has built its reputation on nuanced tracking beyond simple page counts.

Looking ahead, the integration is expected to roll out in June 2026 without reported delays. Readers interested in participating can prepare by ensuring they have active accounts on both services ahead of the launch date.
