In a lighthearted response to swirling rumors about undisclosed grandchildren in her famously large family, Jinger Duggar Vuolo recently addressed the speculation during a Q&A session on her Instagram Stories. The 32-year-old former star of 19 Kids and Counting teased, "Ohhh," before adding, "Maybe there are some that I don't know about in a family as large as mine?! Haha jk." Her playful dismissal highlights the challenges of keeping track in a family where her parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, are grandparents to at least 33 children as of October 2024, with three more on the way.
Vuolo, who shares daughters Felicity, 7, Evangeline, 5, and 10-month-old son Finnegan with husband Jeremy Vuolo, explained the sheer scale of her extended family during the February 5 Q&A. With 18 siblings, the Duggar clan has grown exponentially, making it "isn't easy keeping track of more than 40 people's birthdays," she said. Vuolo admitted, "I have my siblings' birthdays and my parents' birthdays memorized. Beyond that, in-laws? No. Nieces and nephews, maybe one or two? It's one of those things where I kind of feel bad about it, but also at the same time, we're at like 40 grandkids for my parents and that's a lot to remember."
The rumors of "mystery grandkids" stem from the rapid expansion of the Duggar family tree, which has been under public scrutiny since the TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting premiered in 2008 as 17 Kids and Counting. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, high school sweethearts who married in July 1984 when Michelle was 17 and Jim Bob 19, have built a life centered on conservative Christian values and large family ideals. Michelle has recalled their early days, noting in a 2017 letter on the family blog how Jim Bob shyly asked her to a junior-senior banquet after meeting through church outreach. "From there, we believe our hearts were knit together," she wrote.
Jim Bob, a former Arkansas state legislator who served in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002 and ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate in 2002 and Arkansas State Senate in 2006, and Michelle, both licensed realtors, have been vocal advocates for conservative causes. Their lifestyle, which emphasizes courtship over dating and large families, has drawn both supporters and critics, especially after controversies involving their eldest son, Josh Duggar.
The Duggar grandchildren count begins with Josh, born March 3, 1988, and his wife Anna Keller, whom he married on September 26, 2008, in a ceremony featured on the show. The couple has seven children: Mackynzie, born October 8, 2009; Michael on June 15, 2011; Marcus on June 2, 2013; Meredith on July 16, 2015; Mason Garrett on September 12, 2017; Maryella Hope on November 27, 2019; and Madyson Lily on October 23, 2021. Josh's life took a dark turn in 2015 when old police records revealed he had been accused of molesting several girls, including sisters Jessa and Jill, as a teenager. Jessa defended him in a June 2015 Fox News interview, saying the backlash was "so overboard and a lie, really. I mean people get mad at me for saying that, but I can say this because I was one of the victims."
Further scandals followed, including Josh's admission of infidelity in 2015, leading him to enter a treatment center in 2016, which his parents called "a crucial first step in recovering and healing." In April 2021, he was federally indicted on charges of receipt and possession of child pornography, pleading not guilty. He was convicted in 2022 on the receipt charge— the possession charge was vacated—and sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison.
Twins John-David and Jana Duggar, born January 12, 1990, represent an early milestone after Michelle suffered a miscarriage following Josh's birth. Michelle described the twins as "a double blessing," telling Love to Know, "God was encouraging our hearts." John-David married Abbie-Grace Burnett on November 3, 2018, after a courtship that began at a church event in Oklahoma. They have three children: Grace Annette, born January 7, 2020; Charlie in September 2022; and a daughter due in late 2025, announced at a joint baby shower with Jana in November 2025.
Jana, who married Stephen Wissmann on August 15, 2024, after watching 11 siblings wed first, reflected on her journey in a People interview, saying, "I haven't always understood what the bigger picture is, but I know that God knows what is best for all of us. And so for me, it's getting married later." The couple announced their first pregnancy just over a year later. On their 30th birthday in January 2020, Jana wrote to John-David about the 'twin thing,' adding, "It's so sweet watching you & Abbie as parents! You're naturals!"
Jill Duggar Dillard, born May 17, 1991, met husband Derick Dillard on Christmas 2011 during caroling. They married June 21, 2014, and have three sons: Israel on April 6, 2015; Samuel on July 8, 2017; and Frederick on July 7, 2022. In April 2024, Jill shared she suffered a miscarriage while expecting their first daughter. The couple has been outspoken about family controversies in the 2023 Amazon Prime Video documentary Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets.
Jessa Duggar Seewald, born November 4, 1992, courted Ben Seewald starting in 2013, marrying on November 1, 2014. Jim Bob explained courtship to People as "getting to know each other in a group setting, both families spending time together and the couple setting goals together to determine if they are meant to marry." Their children include Spurgeon on November 5, 2015; Henry on February 6, 2017; Ivy Jane on May 28, 2019; Fern in July 2021; George in December 2023; and Edward in August 2025. Jessa suffered a miscarriage over the 2022 holidays, which she shared in February 2023.
As the sixth child, Jinger Vuolo, born December 21, 1993, met Jeremy in Laredo, Texas, during ministry work and married on November 5, 2016. They revealed a miscarriage in fall 2017 before welcoming Felicity on July 19, 2018, Evangeline Jo in November 2020, and Finnegan Charles on March 29, 2025. In a 2023 Romper interview, Vuolo said of more children, "We'll see about the future. I'm so grateful too now, looking at my girls' lives." She added during her recent Q&A, "We think we're set for now. Enjoying these littles so much!!"
Joseph Duggar, born January 20, 1995, proposed to Kendra Caldwell at sister Joy-Anna's wedding in May 2017. They have Garrett, born June 2018; Addison in November 2019; and Brooklyn in February 2021. Joseph told People after the proposal, "I was definitely nervous going into it, but I wasn't afraid that she was going to say no."
Josiah Duggar, born August 28, 1996, married Lauren Swanson on June 30, 2018, after a previous courtship with Marjorie Jackson ended in 2015. Josiah recalled to People, "Marjorie and I had a good time together. We were just trying to follow God's lead on everything." Their children are Bella Milagro, born November 8, 2019, after a miscarriage; Daisy in 2022; and Ezra in May 2023. Michelle praised Lauren in a family blog video, saying, "We love Lauren, she is such a precious girl."
Joy-Anna Duggar Forsyth, born October 28, 1997, married longtime friend Austin Forsyth on May 26, 2017. They have Gideon Martin on February 23, 2018; Evelyn Mae on August 21, 2020; and Gunner James on May 17, 2023.
The twins Jedidiah and Jeremiah Duggar, born December 30, 1998, continue the pattern of close births despite Michelle's breastfeeding. Jedidiah married Katey Swanson in April 2021, and they welcomed son Truett in May 2022, with another child expected. Jeremiah married Hannah Wissmann in March 2022. As the Duggar family navigates public life post-TLC, Vuolo reflected on expectations, saying, "A huge part of my story is that everybody has an expectation on how they want me to live. And so I know that some people will say it's a disappointment that I don't throw off everything, but at the same time ... I have let go of more than probably a lot of people would expect." With ongoing births and family milestones, the Duggars remain a focal point for discussions on faith, family size, and privacy in the spotlight.
