‘Marshals’ Stars Logan Marshall-Green and Arielle Kebbel Break Their Silence About Exit Concerns

Marshals stars Logan Marshall-Green and Arielle Kebbel confirm they are returning for season 2 after a cliffhanger finale raised exit questions. The actors shared details about filming and their characters' futures in comments to The Hollywood Reporter.

Marshals stars Logan Marshall-Green and Arielle Kebbel have spoken out following the season one finale of the Yellowstone spinoff, which left viewers wondering about the fates of their characters after a dramatic ambush.

The episode, which aired Sunday, May 24, on CBS, featured several tense moments. Andrea, played by Ash Santos, received a job offer that could relocate her from Montana to Washington, D.C. At the same time, Belle (Kebbel) and Cal (Marshall-Green) found themselves in a dangerous situation during a mission, with Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey) caught up in the events.

It remained unclear at the end of the episode whether Belle and Cal survived the ambush, prompting speculation about possible exits ahead of the already renewed second season. Both actors quickly moved to clarify their status in comments to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I can confirm [Cal] is alive, but not necessarily unscathed," Marshall-Green, 49, said. "I think I can confirm that for everybody in the damn show, because everybody’s going through it by the end of this thing. I’m hours away of shooting [season 2, episode 1]. I can tell you that we’re all going through things — without giving anything away."

Kebbel, 39, also confirmed her continued involvement. "I am a part of season 2, yes. We start filming [season 2] with a pick up of that [finale] moment. My head is so deep into season 2 already," she said.

The actress described her initial reaction to the script’s cliffhanger. "After reading that big cliffhanger, I should have asked myself if Belle survives! But the truth is that I’m so used to Belle being in precarious situations almost every episode," Kebbel noted. "And even though both Belle and Cal are there, it felt in that moment that, because Cal is in front, he’s the one in more in danger."

Marshall-Green emphasized his commitment to the series moving forward. "I love employment! I love steady income, and I love more than anything this crew and this cast. I could easily see myself making this show for many years," he said. He added that he hopes the writers explore challenging storylines, particularly around Cal’s experiences with cancer, without taking a safe approach.

"Now — where is the story juiciest, now that we’re dealing with a subject matter like cancer? I don’t wanna sugarcoat it. I don’t want kid gloves on. I don’t want a safe approach. I want Cal to go through it, because I think that is the duty to these men and women who come back from uniform," Marshall-Green continued.

Kebbel expressed appreciation for the show’s growing audience and the returning crew. "When people are watching a show like Marshals, I’m not sure they’re thinking about the art and sacrifice of it, but there is a lot of sacrifice that goes into it," she shared. "So I’m really grateful that we’re building momentum and have an audience, and I’m really grateful that we have so many crew coming back from season 1 to season 2 so we all get to go, ‘We’re in this together.’"

The series, which follows U.S. Marshals in Montana, is available to stream on Paramount+. Season two is currently in production, picking up directly from the events of the finale.

Marshall-Green also reflected on the demanding nature of the first season’s shoot. "The first season was a grueling shoot," he said, while expressing optimism about the creative direction under creator Spencer Hudnut and the writing team.

Kebbel recalled feeling more concern for Cal’s safety than her own character’s during the finale. "My head went to, ‘What’s going to happen to Cal?’" she said, based on their positions in the scene.

Both actors indicated they are focused on the challenges ahead for their characters rather than any potential departures. The show’s renewal for a second season had already been announced prior to the finale airing.

Officials at CBS and Paramount+ have not released additional casting details beyond the confirmations from Marshall-Green and Kebbel. Marshals continues to draw viewers interested in the Yellowstone universe expansion.
