Massapequa Soccer Club gets special invite to create ‘a developmental pipeline’

Massapequa Soccer Club received an invitation to the National Academy League to build a developmental pipeline for young players. Director Paul Bigilin highlighted the opportunity for local talent to advance while staying in one program.

Massapequa Soccer Club is having a ball after receiving a special invitation to join the National Academy League, a competitive circuit known for developing some of America’s most talented young footballers.

The well-known, highly competitive youth program on Long Island’s South Shore will now have the chance to create what club director Paul Bigilin described as “a developmental pipeline” for its players.

“It’s an opportunity for a developmental pipeline,” Bigilin told The Post. “Getting them through developmental stages is crucial to see talented kids play beyond college.”

The invitation allows young athletes from the area to remain with a single program throughout their adolescence while gaining greater exposure at a national level, according to club officials.

Massapequa Soccer Club has long focused on providing excellent exposure for young Long Islanders, and this latest development builds on that mission with a stricter competitive environment.

Last summer, the club hosted trainers and staff from Wrexham at Burns Park for the Welsh club’s first American youth camp, an event that highlighted MSC’s growing international connections.

Bigilin noted that the new league affiliation gives these athletes an even greater chance to shine while staying rooted in their community-based program.

“As a community-based club, it’s such a great opportunity being in a stricter league,” he added. “We get to show America what Massapequa is all about.”

The National Academy League has served as an early training ground for many players who later advance to college and professional levels, offering structured competition and scouting opportunities that local programs often lack.

Club leaders say the move positions Massapequa Soccer Club to attract more talented players from the region while maintaining its emphasis on long-term development rather than short-term results.

Parents and coaches in the area have expressed optimism that the invitation will open doors for local talent without requiring families to relocate or switch programs mid-career.

Bigilin emphasized that the focus remains on guiding players through key developmental stages, helping them transition successfully from youth soccer to higher levels of play.

With this step, Massapequa Soccer Club aims to demonstrate its capabilities on a broader stage while continuing to serve the South Shore community it has long supported.

Officials expect the partnership with the National Academy League to begin in the upcoming season, though exact start dates and match schedules have not yet been released.
