Sheryl Crow Found Out Ex Lance Armstrong Was Dating ‘Really Famous Actress’ Amid Her Cancer Battle

Sheryl Crow discussed her breakup with Lance Armstrong and breast cancer diagnosis on a podcast. She reflected on moving forward and adopting her two sons.

Sheryl Crow has opened up about the difficult period when she learned her former fiancé Lance Armstrong had begun dating a well-known actress while she was battling breast cancer. The 64-year-old singer shared the details during an appearance on the May 19 episode of Bobby Bones’ “The Bobbycast” podcast on Netflix, reflecting on events from nearly two decades ago.

Crow and Armstrong, now 54, were together from 2003 until their split in 2006. They had been engaged for five months when the relationship ended, largely over differing views on having children. Crow recalled the timing of the breakup coinciding with her cancer diagnosis. “I was engaged, I had three beautiful stepchildren, I wanted to have kids with this person. We split in the same week … I got diagnosed with breast cancer,” she said. “[Then] I found out he was seeing a really famous actress.”

She described the months that followed as a mix of medical treatment and emotional recovery. “I really felt like I went through about nine months of radiation and grieving and anger,” Crow stated. Armstrong has two children from his first marriage to Kristin Richard and later welcomed two more with his current wife, Anna Hansen, before their 2022 wedding.

According to Crow, a conversation with her oncologist helped shift her perspective during treatment. The doctor, whom she described as looking like her grandmother, told her, “I’ve had a thousand women come through with breast cancer. Don’t miss out on the lesson.” Crow said this advice prompted her to examine her own patterns of caretaking and self-neglect.

After her cancer went into remission, Crow adopted her son Wyatt in 2007 and son Levi in 2010. She spoke about her decision to become a mother on her own terms. “I have my own belief system. I believe your kids pick you. I don’t think you ever get the wrong kid,” she explained on the podcast.

Crow also addressed the long process of reaching acceptance after the breakup. “It took me forever to get to the place where I was, like, open-armed and like, ‘OK, I may not get to be a mom. I’ve loved a lot of amazing people and I’ve loved some other people too, and that was where I got off,’” she recalled. She described finally deciding to move forward without overanalyzing the future.

The singer said she told herself, “OK, God, I’m just gonna get in the boat, I’m gonna start rowing. If you meet me halfway with a baby, great, [and] if you don’t.” Crow noted that her sons have grown into close brothers who share many of her traits.

Armstrong’s representatives have not publicly commented on Crow’s recent remarks. The couple’s relationship was widely covered at the time, with both stars maintaining relatively private personal lives in the years since their split.

Crow has continued her music career and advocacy work following her recovery. She has spoken in the past about the importance of early detection and support for cancer patients, though she has rarely discussed the personal details of her breakup in such depth until now.

The podcast appearance comes as Crow prepares for upcoming performances and reflects on her life choices. She emphasized staying present rather than dwelling on past timelines. “You’re ready, and you don’t want to spend too much time overanalyzing, ‘Why now? Am I gonna be this? Am I gonna be that?’ Because then you miss out on the now,” she said.
